Married At First Sight groom Harrison Boon has defended his bizarre spiel about his TV wife’s health struggle.
The 32-year-old builder appeared solo at last night’s commitment ceremony, with his partner Bronte Schofield’s absence credited to illness.
After taking to the couch, the father-of-one held back tears while talking about Bronte’s ordeal with endometriosis – a painful chronic inflammatory disorder in which tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside it. Symptoms are often worse during menstruation.
Many took to social media accusing the groom of faking his emotions for cameras, but Harrison has since claimed what viewers saw was “genuine compassion”.
“The emotions that you see were very real,” Harrison wrote on Facebook.
“I have a lot of empathy, and a real soft spot for my son and you’ve seen my softer side in flashes during the experiment.
“I don’t appreciate the women of the group laughing at me showing vulnerability and showing absolutely no care for Bronte’s situation.
“What you see tonight is a guy showing nothing but compassion and real genuine care for his wife.”
During the commitment ceremony, Harrison was called out by the MAFS experts for not “being real” while discussing Bronte’s health.
“Unfortunately, Bronte couldn’t be here,” Harrison began. “She goes through a lot more at that time of the month.
“I’m not a voice for endo-demetriosis [sic] or a woman’s biological functions but she’s in a lot of pain, and gets very emotional and crying,” he stopped, his voice breaking as he seemingly tried to get his emotions in check.
“It’s just really hard to see her like that. I’m going to try and get through this as best I can.
“I’m a guy – I don’t know what Bronte goes through. I’ve just gotta be supportive and do whatever I can.”
Refusing to even entertain the odd speech, MAFS expert John Aiken snipped, “I’m not getting a sense you’re being real with us. Stay or leave?” Both Harrison and Bronte wrote stay.
It’s fair to say viewers were left baffled by Harrison’s actions:
Harrison and Bronte, 28, have had a turbulent time in the experiment over the last three weeks.
The couple’s wedding day was rocked by allegations Harrison had a secret girlfriend on the outside.
Then, at last week’s dinner party, Harrison was accused of getting another woman’s phone number during a night out at the pub with fellow groom Dan Hunjas.

Despite this, Bronte has chosen to trust her partner and continue to work on their relationship.
John Aiken previously revealed on The Chrissie Swan Show that Harrison’s ongoing antics will “beat” everything we’ve seen in a decade of the show.
“There’s been some rippers, [but] Harrison this year … I’m gonna say he is the most memorable that I can think of over the 10 years, and I can’t tell you why, but I can say he is an alpha personality, who is unapologetic and he will say and do things that you will be shocked by,” he said.
